I've been asked to play a Fat Tuesday gig in Brooklyn. Out of all the Brooklyn neighborhoods I think the most New Orleans like is Coney Island. This gig is not there. It's in Red Hook. Red Hook is the second most New Orleans like. Mostly cause it's a bit relaxed, you can park, and there is no subway. This gig is at Sunny's in Red Hook. So we got that.
Next, there seems to be a bunch of Fat Tuesday gigs going on in town. They've got king cakes, beads, and bigger bands etc. However none of them have the authentic NOLA contacts I have. So I've reached into the rolodex and gotten some PPT, (primo parade throws) shipped up. Some of them blink and say 2019 on them. So you know it's the real deal. I even have some beads with shrimp boots on them. Some throw cups too. AUTHENTIC. We are in the moment.
Next, the best NOLA MG experiences are about the crowd participation, there is no audience, the audience is the show. Namely the costumes! Now getting a bunch of New Yorkers to get in costume in March would be difficult so I've lowered the bar. You won't even need a glue gun. You just need a Wig! Who doesn't have a wig laying around? We also need a Krewe, so
I HEREBY FOUND THE KREWE OF WIG. The first order of business is to declare the annual WIG PARTY will be at Sunny's in Red Hook, this Tuesday, March 5, 8pm. Membership is open, just bring a WIG!

I've been learning the viola on the side for the past year or so. I am no where near proficient enough to play with the LPO! This is an event wehre the community gets to play with the Orchestra. I participated last year and it was so much fun I'm flying back for it this year. If you like to participate click HERE.
Tim passed away on Saturday night after a long battle with ALS. Tim was a frequent bass player in the NYC edition of my various bands. I'm happy to be included as some of his many musician friends play a tribute to him.
